Feature
Popo received "P" of her mother, Puchi, and was named after "TanPOPO (it means "dandelions" in Japanese)" because she was born in spring. She likes dandelions (as food). Her eyes are round and she appears fatter than the truth because her face is round and she has the bushy hair. She looks like her younger sister, Pan. She has the habits of biting her nails and licking the palms of her hands.
Character
Popo is calm and ladylike. She is unconcerned about relationships among people and chimpanzees. Because she lives according to her own way, she disturbs the atmosphere of the group and is often chased by the members of the group. But she is brave and engages daringly with them. She gets along with her sister, Pan. She is a tender aunt, taking good care of her niece, Pal.

Life history
1982.03.07 Popo was born at Kyoto University Primate Research Institute (PRI) (Birth weight 1900 gm). First chimpanzee in Japan conceived by artificial insemination. Raised by humans. Kept in a group whose members were Reiko  {0432} , Puchi  {0436} , Gon  {0437} , Ai  {0434} , Mari  {0274} , Akira  {0435} , and Pendensa  {0095} .
1982.05.18 Reo  {0439}  was born. Mother: Reiko  {0432} .
1983.12.07 Pan  {0440}  was born. Mother: Puchi  {0436} .
1985.01.20 Chloe  {0441}  moved to Primate Research Institute Kyoto University.
1985.09.10 Mari  {0274}  moved to Japan Monkey Centre for breeding loan.
1989.10.03 Ai and Akira escaped from Institute.
1994.04.28 body weight 46.7kg
1995 New outdoor enclosure was completed. Chimpanzees now kept together in a group.
1996.05.21 body weight 48.1kg
1996.05.29 Mari  {0274}  came back to PRI (Primate Research Institute Kyoto University).
1998.07.29 Ai  {0434}  gave birth to Atom  {0584}  (conceived by artificial insemination), but he was stillborn.
2000.04.24 Ai gave birth to Ayum  {0608}  (conceived by artificial insemination).
2000.06.19 Chloe gave birth to Cleo  {0609} .
2000.08.09 Pan gave birth to Pal  {0611}  (conceived by artificial insemination).
2003.05.15 Puchi gave birth to Pico  {0662} .
2005.06.09 Pico  {0662}  died.
