Information
Fucosylated glycans are involved in a variety of biological and pathological processes, including cell migration. The donor substrate for fucosylation, GDP-fucose, is synthesized in the cytoplasm mainly through a de novo synthesis pathway, which includes an enzymatic reaction catalyzed by GDP-mannose 4,6-dehydrase (GMDS). The towhead mutant has a mis-sense mutation in gmds and affects the expression of fucosylated glycans. Known phenotypes; viability (leathal, 6-7 days post-fertilization), neural migration (the trigeminal, the facial, and the vagus motor neurons), 'curled up' tail.
